freeware vs purchase

will the avg A-S 7.5, spybot S&D and Avast antivirus do a better job then norton internet security 2006... im tlaking resources, finding intrusions everything and if not what is something that you can buy like mccafe (ect) that would be better?
 
I've used NIS for the past 4 years or so, and just last week I quit using it. I now use Windows Firewall, Avast! and SpySweeper (I did pay for the full version a while ago). I havent had any problems without NIS.
 
ya i found that too and my system isnt the greatest so its really noticeable.. but lately norton has been saying to activate the program ive been using for the last year ... so i think if i can get as good/better coverage with the freeware programs then i might as well do that

Windows firewall will not stop or detect OUTGOING info! Outgoing is important as an aid to help detect if you have unwanted apps in your comp.
 
I didnt say it detects outgoing info. I have a router which stealth's all posts, and I just have Windows Firewall enabled to catch any little thing, and my computer is running fine. If you want a firewall, get ZoneAlarm, but I havent had a need for anything.
