Ok this is a very noobish question but I need help. My moms computer, at weird times will freeze. It's weird because it's very spontaneous. I have reinstalled the OS on it and it still freezes. Any other things I could try?

Does it freeze and shut down or does it freeze and then resume?
If it's shutting down, then it's having a hardware issue. I would start by testing the memory with memtest. Download the iso image (Google it), burn it to CD, and boot the PC to that CD. Let it run for a while (30 minutes or so). If your Mom's PC has more than one memory chip in it, test each one individually.

If the PC is freezing then resuming, then start looking at what software is running in the back ground. Use msconfig.exe (Start/Run/type in msconfig.exe/Startup tab) to stop software from starting with Windows. Uncheck everything but whats related to the anti-virus software.

Hope this helps.

It's a hardware issue then.
You've ruled out the RAM so the next step would be the power supply.
You'll have to exchange her PSU with a good compatible one and give it a try.
You can also check for any over heating issues. Check for proper fan operation on the CPU and GPU if there is one. Check for dust accumulation, especially the CPU heatsink.
If all checks out, then it's on to the GPU. If the GPU is built into the motherboard, then there is really nothing you can do. If there is a separate GPU card, change it for a working one.
Next would be the hard drive. There are diagnostic tools available for each hard drive manufacturer so download them, burn the image to CD, boot to the resulting CD, and test the drive.
Eventually you will find the culprit.

id still check the ram... it could be possible they have become bad so be sure to check them, if u dont feel like runnin memtest then if it is more than one memory module remove all but one keep doin that with them all to see if it doesnt lock up
