Freezeing computer

After rebuilding my computer it keeps freezeing. I have changed no software, so it isn't a software problem.

I'm selling my case to get another and because i am selling it online i needed to take pictures. Took everything from the inside out to show it bare and put it all back with everything how it should be, but now it keeps randomly freezeing.

I have ran memtest and it turned up nothing so RAM is ok, video cards are working as usual (i played COD4 on near full first time it froze and there were no issues with graphics), i am about 99.999% sure it isn't the PSU because that is a week old and ace.

So that leaves HDD, mobo or processor. The HDD are running alright i think because i ran scan disk on em and nothing turned up.

my rig is as said below

Any ideas then anyone?

Hmmm that is weird. How long does it take to freeze normally? A few minutes? In a game or application? Randomly?

Try reseating EVERY component you have from the CPU to the ram to the GPU. Double check and make sure all of the connections from the PSU to the mobo are tight. It could be a multitude of things so try that and see what happens. What are the temps of of the CPU and computer itself? Makes sure the heatsink is properly on and the CPU isn't frying.

it happens after 10 to 20 minutes

Temperatures are normal speedfan tells me but i have noticed myself that the nb heatsink is chucking out a little more heat than usual, but as i don't usually dive into my system as soon as ive powered it down (or frozen as the case was), i could just be imaginining stuff.

i also tried resitting my CPU because, (i didn't mention this, don't know why) when i first booted after putting everything back bios said "new CPU found please set up in BIOS settings", so i did but still freezeing.

NB is hotter than usual i have just found out, i put my case thermometer in the heatsink and it is saying it as at 49 degrees, about 9/10 higher than usual.

I have already checked everything, resitted GPU, RAM, mobo power, HDD SATA cadble and power cables, DVD drive HDD and power cables, CPU and heatsink, everything that is possible to find a bproblem with has been checked but nothing still

oh, it is also happeneing no matter what i am doing, listening to music, gaming, brrowsing the internet, watching videos, anything, so it isn;t bothered when it does it, it just does it

aaah, i have noticed it isn't doing it when i am just browsing the internet and on messenger, so probably only when under load

Weird. Ok, if you can, try flashing the BIOS to a newer version and see what happens. I find it very odd that it would "find" your CPU and tell you to set up the BIOS after just taking it out of the case. It also sounds like a similar problem that I had with a video card that I had about a month ago. Updating the BIOS fixed the freezing. Try doing that and then resetting the CMOS and setting everything in your BIOS to default and see what happens.

it is at the most recent one, had to flash about a month ago to get 8GB of RAM working

Is that when all of the freezing started happening too? You might actually need to roll back to the version just before the newest then cause something is definitely screwy in the BIOS. Try resetting the CMOS first and then set your BIOS settings to default and see what that does.

no it has been fine since i updated the bios, been brilliant, no problems, it is since i have taken out and reinstalled my system

That is just the most bizarre thing I ever heard of.

In that case try resetting the CMOS and see what happens. It sounds like something got messed up when you unplugged the computer and replaced it in the new case. Let me know what that does.

I am still using my "old" case, an aspire x-infinity case, i am only going to order my new one once the current one is posted on ebay.

I am thinking it could possibly be a problem with the graphics card too because it isn't crashing in firefox, only games, i said it was in browsing before because it was when i was gaming and using the internet. So it is when it is under high strain. I may try using just one of my graphics cards at a im on a game and see if it crashes with either

Oh ok, I'm getting the picture now! :) I guess I must have misunderstood. Yea if it's crashing and freezing in the middle of gaming and nothing else, it definitely has to be the GPU. I'm going to guess that you've updated to the newest drivers and all that nonsense correct? If so, re-install the drivers and go from there. Also, don't forget to reseat the cards as well. Maybe one crd went out or one or both are not completely locked in.

before reading this i tried with only 1 of my 2 cards in.

I took both out to turn my dual card chip from dual to single, put my other one back in and went onto WoW. after about 15 mins it froze. I then restarted, went on audiosurf, fine, garry's mod, fine, so i think that it is only graphic intensive games, WoW is on full, and crashes, COD4 crashes, i haven't tried the other card now, but i think that the problem may be graphical rather than processor or mobo

Maybe but in your sig it suggests that you're running 2 8600GTs in SLI correct? Did you try using one and then the other card to see if one card was shot and the other wasn't? It still sounds like a BIOS issue to me. I know that you updated to the latest one but WoW isn't really that intense graphically. My old Dell laptop from 4 years ago could handle it at full specs with no problems at all. 2 8600GTs should be able to eat through that game. Just for giggles, try updating the BIOS one more time and tell me what happens. Did you reset the CMOS like I suggested?

I have so far done the following (right from the start up to now):

1. Found the problem. Ran mem test...nothing
2. Ran scan disk...nothing
3. Reseated CPU after i got the warning before the first freeze...nothing
4. Checked all temperatures...nothing
5. Tried each of my 2 video cards on their own playing Call of Duty 4 so they had something to chew on...nothing

So it isnt the HDD, RAM or graphics cards. Because it is only when under any kind of strain that it starts to freeze it could still yet be my processo, however it boots up fine and that uses all resources for a few seconds, so that is at the bottom of my list. I have, because as i said before i'm a bit wary of my nb temps, put a fan onto my nb heatsink to see if that will fix anything. off to play COD again to see if it happens once more

oh, and for the bios thing, i can;t update any further. it will just be a reinstall on something i know isn't causeing a problem, otherwise this would have cropped up last month, not now that i have taken out and replaced my system in the same case

sorted. I took my nb heatsink off, put some more thermal paste on because there was the tinyest piddlyest amount and now its working fine, it was overheating which was causeing issues.

Thankyou for the help through it though :D:D
