Fresh xp pro install fast but after updates slower, why?

Does anyone else see the slow down after you do all the windows updates?
I dont get it at all, I just install windows on my new HD last night and it was screaming until I put all the updates in??
Here are my specs to give you better info.
Core2duo E6400
Asus P5B-Deluxe
2GB corsair XMS2 PC-6400
Raptor 150GB (the new drive I just install xp on)

It just bugs me cause this system (just built it) should be screaming fast no matter what right? Well atleast I thought it would be :)
 
When you install updates to windows, it usually slows down. Before all the updates, I usually get under 20 seconds for start up, but after the updates and a few programs, it usually goes to 45-60.
 
I just installed XP Pro last night too, and I noticed the same thing. Definately saw the system slow down a little, but it wasn't enough to make me mad or anything.
 
Yes it slows down because you are adding security features and more addon's to your operating system. This is normal with windows they always do this but its not a big amount of stuff so dont worry about it.
 
Well I know this might sound stupid but I counted how many times that blue bar went along the button (before it goes into the desktop) and it went by 1 time and clicked right into the desktop. After all the updates it goes around 7 times along.

Its a definite difference

A simple solution if this bothers you: Keep your computer on all the time.
