Fried Motherboard

Well, my motherboard is sadly fried. PSU went with it, but the memory, cpu and gpu are all fine. So, could someone reccomend a motherboard that would be compatible with this computer? The motherboard has been discontinued and I really don't know what to do.

I can't afford to fully rebuild the computer, so what I have now will have to due. I cannot for the life of me remember the memory's DDR. How much does that effect the computer? I'll try to get the DDR.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it's going to be an AM2 board for starters and if it's a reasonably "cheap" quality"ish" board you're after then you can't go too far wrong with an AsRock mobo

the socket 939 and am2 proccessors, won't interchange. socket 939 motherboards are hard to find. try looking on ebay, and also try to google them and see what you get. google should bring up places like pricewatch.com that will list vendors that still have some instock

Also, if I were to switch my mobo, I would go with a core duo processor so can anyone reccomend some CPUs and mobos to accomodate my needs? I'm looking to play Age of Conan, EverQuest 2, basically I play A LOT of MMOs. I usually play for extensive hours and put my computer under pretty rough conditions I guess.

So I would only need to replace my CPU and mobo, correct? The PSU burnt out, but we got a new one already, and I don't see myself upgrading my card RIGHT NOW, even though it's a little out of date. And the memory should be fine with anything, correct? Thanks a lot.

its possible u can get a board that takes ddr..
Yes indeed, as I mentioned before..... AsRock do "Hybrid" boards that support either DDR or DDRII(but NOT both together!!!!!) and I know AsRock are at the lower end of the Mobo market but they do make some very sound hardware:)

Well the problem is I don't have the money to buy an entire new set-up. I'd love to, as I've had this rig for.. I guess pushing on two and a half years, but I'm confident my video card and cpu can handle most games I want to run right now. I will upgrade eventually, but only when I can get some cash flowing. Being a college student really sucks sometimes, but whatever. I've found MY old motherboard here, http://www.pcplanetsystems.com/abc/product_details.php?item_id=678&category_id=118, but a lot of people don't seem to know the website so I don't know if I can trust it.

Another person suggested http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131013, but I don't even know if this would work on a 939 socket board.

I really need some feedback as I'd like to order a mobo tonight. Thank you!

I have heard that your motherboard is notorious for having problems.
You may want to consider a different board but it would mean having to start over with the Windows install (clean install).

I have this board in my main rig and it's been bullet proof. I did replace the northbridge fan (noisy) more than two years ago with this:

It's still been rock solid but I also have excellent airflow through my case.

I have heard of PC Planet but I have never dealt with them. They have both good and bad reviews, but so does everyone else.
They do deal in out of production parts so you might want to be quick about ordering because it may be gone later.
Anyway, good luck!
