Front USB in old case

My old case has 2 usb 1.1 ports at the front.

I'm about to install a different motherboard in it that supports usb 2.0.

If I plug the wire from these front ports onto the new motherboard will they then become usb 2.0 or is there a physical difference between the two different types?

Thanks

USB 2.0 (Hi-speed USB) increases the data transfer rate from 12 Mbps (Megabits per second) of USB1.1 up to 480 Mbps.

USB 2.0 is both forward and backward compatible with USB 1.1.

USB specification version 2.0 is the next-generation peripheral connection for personal computers. It is intended as an upgrade for USB 1.1. Not only the new standard provides additional bandwidth for multimedia and storage applications but also offers Plug-and-Play capability and full backward compatibility for legacy USB devices.

Sorry to be rude but that is not the question I asked and doesnt help.

If the ports are USB 1.1, then even if you plug them into a USB 2.0 motherboard, they'll remain 1.1 - they won't get 'upgraded' to 2.0.

I think the guy above is a spammer by the way. Ignore him anyway.

Thank you for answering the question. Looks like I need a new case to put the motherboard in then.

Not sure if there are any other computer related forums around as I found this one through a search engine. This one appears very quiet with few replies to questions posted. Tried earlier and was dissapointed with the response.

Must add that I am a member of many different types of forums and none as quiet as this one.

Many thanks to those that have tried to help during the short time I have been a member but unfortunately there appears to be a shortfall of knowlegeable folk on here.
Time to look elsewhere. Shame.

For one its the holidays. Most people are spending it with friends and family instead of online. Yes, even if you upgrade the motherboard to usb 2.0 the case ports will remain at 1.1. Don't give up on our forum just yet. There are many knowledgeable members here.

All the forums I'm on at the moment have been quite quiet for months now.

John's right - sometimes people have better things to do than to answer impatient people on forums.
