frozen mousepad (i think) help please

the arrow icon on my computer on my computer is frozen and i dont know what to do to solve the problem. i am a complete computer novice so any help/advice would be appreciated.

Have you tried exchanging the mouse? Or making sure that it is plugged in all the way? Does the Num Lock light on the keyboard turn off and on when you press the num Lock key? What about the start menu when you press the Windows key? This will tell us if the whole machine is froze or just the mouse. When did this happen? Just "all of a sudden"? Or after moving/cleaning/rearranging the computer?
