G92 GT and GTS coolers

I was just wondering...I've never found the need to use an aftermarket cooler on any of my video cards, and I was wondering about the compatibility of cards and coolers. Specifically, will a cooler listed as compatible for an 8800 GTS work with both the old 320MB versions and the new 256/512s? I ask because I'm going to step up to an EVGA 8800GTS 512 and would like to see if there are some better-than-stock options out there, largely because I almost certainly plan to OC it.

I doubt that G80 aftermarket coolers will work with G92 cards. Also, if you want to just get a good stock cooler to begin with, get the new 8800GTS (512mb G92 core). That one is dual slot design with a bigger heatsink, and better fan than the 8800GT.

That's what I was thinking about getting. My EVGA Step-Up is close to running out, and I had thought that they would be introducing the overclocked versions at the same time. Now that they didn't, I'm trying to figure out the potential of the stock clocked versions--particularly since the 8800GT 512MB SSC (highest-end GT in the EVGA lineup) is a little faster than the 8800GTS stock.

But if I can get the stock GTS to reach the potential of that line's SSC version, then why bother? I know how to OC video cards pretty well.

I'm just really looking hard into aftermarket GTS cooling to get the most out of the build. I don't exactly feel comfortable enough to get into watercooling yet (I have a few tropical aquariums in my basement...tried some semi-exotic filtration options and ended up with more than a few puddles, and don't want to see that inside my rig).

Also, aftermarket video coolers are very shiny :D
