GA-990FXA-UD3 Problems.

I got this a few days ago. Open box deal from newegg. Maybe these are the reasons it was returned. Maybe the company will replace it, instead of me sending it back to newegg.

First problem is that I'm not being able to read my core temps in windows programs... None. Speedfan doesn't let me, HWMonitor doesn't let me, and even coretemp doesnt. HWmonitor and coretemp are both giving me some sort of vague "package" (socket?) reading which is terribly off from what the bios is telling me. I have read a little bit about people having these problems before as I googled it, but couldn't really seem to find any fixes. Has anyone else had this problem?

The front USB 3.0 also doesn't want to work... I'm guessing this may be the actual reason it was returned to newegg. The back usb 3.0 are working, though, and that makes me think the fault here is the header on the board (confident that it is not the case, as my previous board had a 3.0 header and the port worked fine.

Aside from that, I'm pretty happy with the board. Had a little trouble with flashing the bios, but that has more to do with the fact that I'm an idiot. But if anyone can help me with those two problems, I'd be very grateful, as I especially need to monitor my core temps, since I made my own water cooling and I'm still tweaking it.

Well, the front USB 3.0 Header is more or less something I can live with. The horrible temp readings, on the other hand, are not something I can live with. This seems like it would be a bios issue, but idk how to go about fixing it. Already flashed to the most recent bios.

Please go and

Right click on Computer
Properties
Click on Device Manager in the top left

Are there any red or yellow flags in the hardware list?

Also make sure you have the latest BIOS.

The bios is flashed to the most recent version. The only temperatures I get in windows are temps which are off (by a wide margin of about 15-20c) and windows will not give me core temps at all (just a single "package" temp.) The bios only gives me a "CPU temp" which seems accurate, but no core temps.

I'll try pc wizard and I'll also look in device manager.

Neither seemed to do much good. Here's a screenshot of all the programs I tried to use thus far, and what results they give me.

Ah, well I'll try that when I get home tonight.. Haha.

It still doesn't make sense, though. Using my 970 Extreme4, I didnt have these problems. I never monitored core temps, but in speedfan, the "CPU temp" seemed pretty accurate... Now it doesn't even want to display anything pertaining to the CPU.

Well you have two AMD CPU temp sensors. One on the motherboard CPU socket. That's the one that is usually listed as a single CPU temp reading. Then the CPU onboard die temp sensor for all cores, usually reads lower then the motherboard temp sensor.

That I know. The problem is I can't get any core (die) temps and the socket reading is horribly off in any program that manages to even register it.

If the bios reads the temp fine, that's from the socket sensor. The programs reads from the same sensor. So I don't know what the problem is there. If the core die sensor isn't reading right, that would be a on die CPU sensor problem. AMD on die sensor has always been not so great. It will always read the cores as to low at idle, but the under load temp are pretty accurate.

The bios reads the socket temp correctly. When, however, I log in to windows, it reads it between 13-20c. I know windows automatically steps down the frequency of the processor when idling, but that seems a little too cold.

And I can't get any core temps at all- from the programs or bios.

Core temps dont worry me as much. I need to monitor the overall temp, though, as I wanted to OC.
