Galaxy Tab S

A week ago I picked up a Samsung Galaxy Tab S (LTE version) through my service provider. I own two other tablets (Blackberry Playbook and Asus MemoPad HD7), but those seem like toys compared to the Tab S. This thing is super thin and has a display with a higher resolution than my 27" desktop monitor. I was never really satisfied with 7" tablets...couldn't really type on them well. Plus anything office just wasn't very practical to work with. The Tab S actually feels more like working on a small laptop, which is exactly what I was looking for.

I've ordered a 128GB SD card which should arrive any day now. There are some other accessories that interest me, such as the USB adapter, which will allow me to connect a thumb drive to the Tab S.

To be continued...

Sounds like a nice tablet, awesome screen resolution. I've owned a number of Android tablets (including a Samsung Tab 7) but since I bought my first Windows tablet I hardly use my Android tablet. I currently have the Surface Pro 3 and love that I can use the same suite of programs on it that I use on my desktop, laptop and netbook.

You can buy thumb drives that plug directly into Android tablets now so an OTG adapter isn't required. http://www.phonearena.com/news/10-USB-flash-drives-made-for-Android-smartphones-and-tablets_id58396

Enjot your new tablet!

I seriously looked at Windows tablets, including the Surface, but there are several concerns I have which have kept me from purchasing one.

1. I have already invested money into apps for Android

2. Microsoft Office (emphasis on OneNote) would have been the main reason why I would have bought a Windows tablet, but Office 365 is now available on Android. And the Android 365 syncs perfectly via OneDrive with my desktop 365.

3. It's nice to have access to the same applications that run on PCs, but most applications that run on the desktop environment do not work well on small touchscreens. The ability to install desktop software isn't really an advantage at all...not yet at least. Try to use the PC version of Adobe Photoshop on a tablet.

I caved in and finally bought the Samsung keyboard for my Galaxy Tab S 10.5. In the past, I thought if you needed a keyboard for a tablet, then the tablet wasn't made well enough. After doing some heavy on-screen typing (which I rarely ever did until now), I changed my opinion. Even though the keyboard is small in comparison to a standard PC keyboard, typing is so much easier and more accurate than typing on-screen. Samsung doesn't manufacture a book cover/keyboard hybrid like for the Tab S2, the book cover for the Tab S1 is separate and doesn't integrate with the keyboard at all. That means if you want to use the keyboard then you will have to remove the standalone book cover, not something owners might be comfortable with considering the book cover snaps firmly on to the back of the tablet. Regularly removing the book cover might cause wear on the cover snaps and/or the holes on the back of the tablet. The Tab S 10.5 tablet does fold over and lock onto the keyboard, much like a laptop. This protects the screen, but doesn't prevent the outer shell from getting scratched. One last thing. The tablet doesn't lock firmly into the keyboard when in use. This makes it easy to remove, but, this also prevents you from using the tablet/keyboard while it is resting on your knees in the open position like a laptop. Personally, I would only be using them together on a hard surface anyways.

In 2014, the original price for the keyboard was 120 Euros. I bought it on Amazon for 39 Euros.
