game crashes at startup... WTF!

HALO 2...

click on it to start the game and my whole pc crashes and needs to be restarted!!! game is up to date and so is my video driver

anybody had this same problem and know why?
 
actually its funny u ask coz i had a similar problem with "the last remnant" and i had to find the game in my steam folder on C:/ drive, right click it and change the compatibility settings so it started in 640x480 then once i was in the game i turned all the graphics up to the max and now it starts fine

i tried this already with halo 2 but it didnt work... :(
