Game Engines

Ive been developing games for a few weeks now, using the dark gdk game engine with C++.

What other game engines are good, and what would you reccomend?. I just want to expand my knowledge of using different engines.

Sorry, I can't answer your question but thought that I would make a suggestion. A good source for game engines may be Sourceforge.net. Simply search for "engine" or "game engine". good luck.

I was looking more for reccomendations, theres thousands of game engines i was hoping to find 3-4 popular good ones to try out.

You could try using Source SDK.

It is a free application which you download from steam (go to tools when you are logged in, it is up for download there).

It is a map, level, game etc creator using the source and orange box engines and comes with basic stuff, textures and stuff from the orange box and HL games, but you can add stuff to it, your own items and textures and NPC's that you make yourself.

no problems :) if i knew more on making games and using engines and just programming in general, i would try to offer some more ideas, but as that is a toppic that i know very little about, unfortunately i cannot :P
