Game manufacturer ?

First of all I'm still new here. I hope I posted this in the right area? I was sitting here looking at some screen shots for games I would like to get, and it just hit me... what kind of machines are the manufacturers using. Are they just stupidly over-built? What kind of specs would you expect to see on something they would use to test the newest and intense games?

Some game developers are making use of the information supplied by surveys like the 'Steam Hardware Survey', which you may be familiar with. I think Ronan Hayes from Frantic Games (the guys who are making '1944 D-Day: Operation Overlord') said that they're making use of the information available in the 'Steam Hardware Survey'.
I remember seeing a video from Summer Assembly '09 (biggest annual LAN in Finland) that featured a Polish game developer who was talking about a similar survey that they run and utilize so that they can make their games run on the specs of an, according to their data, average computer.
