Gaming build for uncle

Hey Guys,

Helping my uncle build a gaming PC. He wants good with upgradability for later. I prefer to go with AMD/Radeon, don't want to waste money with Intel. Put together a machine that's based on a tried and true setup I already built but hes looking to save money where he can. Any suggestions?

NOTE: this machine should be able to play FFXIV smoothly therefore I picked the minimum recommended card (not the minimum card) which is 5770. Also I picked the 5770 over the 6000 series to save cash. He wants at least a quadcore/4gig ram machine (I know the 955 can be OCd to the 965s speed but I don't want to bother). I picked the AM3 Mobo just in case he wants to upgrade to a hexacore setup in the future.

Here's what I have:

After all the rebates and crap its about 610 (some don't show above).

Thanks!

I would change out the case. Doesn't have cable management and you can get better ones for the same price. Look into coolermaster, corsair, or nxzt.

Thanks Clatpon,

Other then that if there are no better options? Is there any reason this setup wont work together?

If you're not planning on doing SLI or Crossfire than you won't need anymore than 550w from a reliable brand.

I would suggest a Samsung F3 over that HDD. True that one may be considered faster but the F3 is regarded on this forum as the fastest 7200RPM HDD. It's also 20 or so dollars cheaper. Money you could put towards a better video card.

Also suggest one of these motherboards, same features basically, a little cheaper.

With those changes you could save about 30-40 dollars and then put that towards a better video card such as 550 TI.

Ok I changed out the MB and the Case, with 40 dollars of rebates it brings it to $582. The plan is to leave it open to Crossfiring but I noticed with that Mobo its a 16x 4x, will that kill the crossfire power alot? Also, Benny boy, that PSU is the same price as the one I picked, but I noticed its 80 silver instead of bronze, does that make a huge difference and can it hand crossfire? Heres what I have now

622 - 582 after $40 rebate.

for 80 dollars more cant do that, would be better off taking the hit or just not CFing, gotta save the money.

See any problems with that set up? That MoBo is Phenom II X6 ready right? I cant tell based on details.

that PSU is the same price as the one I picked
It's 1/2 the cost actually. But I suggested it because nothing was mentioned of CF and as you have since noticed, the mb was x4 for the second card.
If 2x 5770 is planned, then get the 650w. But get a board that will do at least x8/x8 so you will be able to maximixe that CF later on. Otherwise, I'd just get the original Gigabyte 970mb, the $30 PS, and put the $30 towards a bigger single card.
