Hi my name is Jesus and I am new to this forum, I want to get back into gaming, and need a desktop or laptop for college. I am a noobie when it comes to computer parts so i don't know what to look for. I want a to get the best i can get for gaming whether it be a laptop or desktop, i think gaming would be better for desktop but im am not sure.

are there any gaming laptops out there for $1500 that could play sc2, wow, red alert good and possibly better then a desktop

are the super combos on newegg.com worth the buy then i just build it myself?

what websites do you recommend to buy parts or computers, laptops etc.. there are so many but these are the ones i know about. neweeg, tiger direct, and alienware.

If you could build your own gaming comnputer and had a budget of 1500 would you buy a prebuilt or build your own and if so what parts would you use

Thank you to all those that help me out by the way I'll reply back to you if you have a question for me.

BTW. I can get windows 7 too.

The first thing you will want to settle is wether you want a desktop or laptop, the main benefit of the desktop is that you get much more power compared to a laptop, however, the games you are playing do not need an insane graphics card/cpu. So if you don't mind playing games on slightly lower settings with a small FPS drop, then get a laptop, but if the portibility factor of a laptop isn't really important to you, get a powerful desktop. Also for that budget you should most definately build your own if you want a desktop, that way you get exactly what you want for a better price, also, I like to use amazon sometimes for parts (kind of a hit or miss with them though).

^^^What he said. If you want a gaming machine youll certainly get better for you rmoney building a desktop. Dont go prebuilt with a budget like that.

If you want a laptop you can get custom ones although im not too sure how much they cost to be honest.

With $1500 i cant see you maxing every and all games out with a laptop although with a desktop that you build yourself its more than possible. Unles you want 3 screens or a 1600p screen

A good start in that budget area would be to go with Intel rather than AMD.

  • Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz with a third party cooler @ 4.8GHz
  • ASUS P8P67 Socket 1155
  • Radeon HD 6950 (1GB if you have 1 monitor, 2GB if you have more)

We've not established wether he want a laptop or a desktop yet. That said for the OP's budget what you suggested is pretty solid. Although i would advise against the asus and go for something by gigabyte.

Definitely desktop. You can upgrade it in the future which will save $, plus you learn a lot when building one. I have one advice: try to fit in a radeon 7950. It is roughly equal to the gtx 580 but cheaper.

Hi

Thank you guys for your responses
I have decided to go with a desktop because I can upgrade it and it will be more powerful than a laptop.

I have also decided to build my own computer, I'm just concerned if its going to be incredibly difficult, if you guys can tell me what are the tools I need to make sure building my computer won't harm any parts and go smoothly

I also am thinking about i7 since it's the newest one but I'm not sure what the differnence between an i5 and i7 would be.

If you guys have time can you also tell me what parts I am going to need to build my computer that would be very helpful, i would rather get the info from here then form yahoo answers where its unreliable. One more thing can someone actually list all the parts they would pick if they had 1500 dollars and can play new games on greta settings that won't lag or freeze. Thanks guys, i will post pictures of the desktop when i get it built.

I7 for gaming is useless. Your much better off getting an i5 2500k, and a better gpu. Games cant yet take advantage of the HT tech in the i7's.

Building a pc yourself is easy enough, it just takes time really. Have a look around the forum i believe theres tutorial on how to do it somewhere.

If not there will definately be tutes online.

If you do get stuck then post a pic on here and someone will help.

As for what parts your after, what we need to know if do you need monitor, keyboard, mouse etc?

Hi

Thanks for the info guys, the only thing i don't understand is which is the i7 newer than the i5 or is the i5 actually more powerful than the i7 even though its a lower number or does numbe rnot have nothing to do with it, it owuld be very helpful if you could compile a list for me of all the parts you would get to compile a 1500 gaming computer than can run all new games on high or even ultra settings and be upgradable in the future.

i do not need a keyboard, mouse or speakers just the parts necessayry to build the computer thank you guys looking foward to seeing what you guys suggest etc.. also I am a new freak so I like all the newest things thanks

Hi update on what parts I am deciding to get

my name is jesus and i want to get back into gaming, im 18 and go to college and would like to build a good reliable pc than can handle gaming and surfing the internet through wireless internet and look at videos.

Hi these are the parts that I am wanting to buy for my gaming computer.
http://secure.newegg.com/Shopping/ShoppingCart.aspx
My goals are to play games on the bests settings possible and with no problems.

my second goal is to have a computer that can hold and download music fast and also deal with my homework needs such as reports, essays etc.

my budget was 1500 but I can go a little over but definatly not 2000 I am hoping to get these parts by at least a month.

let me know if there is anything I can do to make the performance of my computer run better, I am willing to also opt for a cheaper case if it can get me better performance

can't wait to get this built so i can join you guys in gaming.
