for the video card i'll either get a radeon 1900 xtx or nvidea 7800 gt

I wouldnt reccomend using 64Bit XP. Theres very little drivers out for 64Bit. Wait untill Vista comes out for 64Bit, XP Pro 32bit is OK for now.

Regardless, I'd consider non-LG drives for longevity and performance

my other choices for the dvd-rom are sony or liteon, or what i have now: LG. Which would be the better choice?
I'll save money and just overclock this cpu to 2.5ghz.

Your research should tell you that the A8NSLI DLX has a well known issue of the NB fan failing resulting in a (potentially, at the least) fatality in the motherboard. This is the reason the A8NSLI Premium was introduced with the passive cooler to avoid this issue

The premium is much more likely to be overclocking friendly as for all the differences (and there are some), see the relative websites.
