Gaming Laptop? What do I need?

I am currently looking for a new laptop because my current one is a low end dell that is 3 years old and was never able to run any real games. I just use it for school purposes and checking e-mail and such, but I know I would like to run some games.

What I'm looking for is a laptop that can run WoW at max settings (from what I have heard not a difficult task) and have the ability to run alot of newer games, but I don't need much more than minimal settings as although I'm usually on top of things with my 360, I am for the most part a year or two behind on PC games.

I am an Accounting major going into my senior year of college, but I do NOT need a 2007 office package to come with it because I can get it very cheap through school. However, I would like Vista.

My price range is anywhere from $1000 - $1300. What kind of options do I have and what spec ranges should I be looking at?

Fits nicely with your budget.

> Processor is fast, will cope with all recent games.

> Graphics card will cope with most games, will struggle with games like crysis, but low-medium settings as you said, it will play well.

> 250GB Harddrive for all your work ;)

> Vista Home Premium

Go for that or something like it, that's perfect for what your looking to get out of it. :)

Thanks so much! It looks great, and the reviews for the most part that I'm seeing on various sites look good. The main bad things I see are the flashing lights (which can be turned off) and a complaint about hard drive speed. I'm seeing that 4200 rpm is considered low. How does this affect gaming? Will it slow actually performance, or merely affect load times?

Also, it says "wide" right after the screen specs, but the pic does not look wide. Is it or isn't it? Any idea?

The screen doesn't look wide, like my laptop, however the screen resolution is wide. It will look wide when you get it. My laptop also has flashing lights, (keyboard, lcd, logo, touchpad, quickplay, ect), but they can be turned off, and I would think they would be able to be turned off on the asus. 4200rpm is slow for gaming laptops in general.

I would recommend this laptop

It has a better processor, a smaller screen which would make it easier to carry around in school, it has a similar graphics card to the 8600, just newer, and more memory for a smaller price. Also, the first asus says "open box", which leads me to believe that laptop was returned for a refund.
