Might as well jump on this thread since your already talking about gaming monitors... although the pricing for what your talking about is relatively inexpensive.
I am trying to buy a high-end computer monitor and I have research many of the 24'' and 30'' LCD monitors that are on the market, as well as Westinghouse's 37'' LCD monitor. I currently have 1 EVGA 8800GTX and am in the process of buying another to power these things.
While I was searching for the best one for me, I came across Samsung's 40'' LCD HDTV 1080p which boasts 15000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, yet the 24'', 30'', and 37'' only have 10000:1 or lower, but I don't know what that means? Also, how would a HDTV be different from a regular stand alone monitor, besides being able to watch tv without buying an external tuner?
As for the 30'' vs. the rest I have mentioned here, would 2560 x 1600 for the 30'' be better for gaming than 1920 x 1080? Take into account the size of the 37''/40'' also, would the lower resolution be worse on the larger monitors than the 24'' monitors?

If you have a subscription of Maximum PC or PC Gamer, the 37'' Westinghouse is reviewed in there, along with other monitors I have used to pick these top 4, and they haven't given any information about HDTV's yet, which is why I came here.
What I will be using these for is 1) Gaming 2) Movies 3) TV (tuner required for stand-alone monitors) 4)Maya/3DS Max. As for the larger monitors, I am able to set up the room to be able to sit far away due to the screen size, and the couch is always more comfertable than an office chair!
This is kinda a giant step up for me, even though I have been using a laptop (yay my first LCD!) for about a year now, before that was old CRT's made in like 95-2000, cuz I am cheap!
