Gaming on home network

Hey all,

I have 2 computers connected to a wireless router. One runs W7 and the other XP. Both can see each other on the network, and we can swap and share files with no issues. I am trying to play a game over the network between the 2 computers. The game has the option to look on LAN for any games currently running or use an IP for a remote computer. I start a game and try to connect the other PC looking at the LAN. But it cant find it. I turned of both windows firewalls, but that didnt work. I guess my last option is to create a server with one and connect with the other, but I dont know the first thing about using creating IP address on private networks. Is there another option??

Well first off you'd have to have one of the computers create a game (server) and the other looking for the hosted game. You wouldn't need to mess with any of the ip address settings as they are already correct since you are able to swap files. After you have created a game on one computer you should be able to browse for it on the other computer. It should automatically show up in the list. If you were to tell what game it is that would help me give you more specific directions.
 
well, I thought the same as you, but both computers are obviously on the same network as we do have sharing capabilities, but if either computer starts the game as a host, the other cant see it. It works fine when we use IP address when we are remotely located, but no good when on the same network. This is why I mentioned the computer looking for the other using an IP address...Its Links 2001.
