Gaming on LAN

I have putting some thought into putting together some computers and start to have LAN partys here at my house. I have a decent sized basement. I would like to have about 15 computers and one set up as a dedicated server for games. I have been playing Halo 2 and some older games with just me and my nephew here at night. I have 3 computers ready to go. I have a 16 port hub. All the computers I want to be 3.0 and above. I have 2 at 3.0 and 1 at 3.4. I have 2 gb of ram in 1 and 1 gb of ram in the other 2. All are DDR2 ram. I am also going with 256 video cards. Two of the computers have pci e ports in them. What would be the best video cards for them?

What are the better games now? What should I try? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tim

I run my own LANs as well, my business specializes in LAN Gaming.

So, to my understanding, you want to build 15 computers capable of playing the games you host, as well as a dedicated server.

Will that 16 port be enough? If not, look into getting another one, if you need more slots.

What are the specs of the computers you have ready to go, and how much would you spend on each computer or all together, and does this include the monitor/mouse/keyboard?

Two are P4 3.0 one with 1 GB of Ram and one with 2 gb of ram. The one I have about 2200.00 in it I built it 3 years ago. I have a 256 Radeon 9600 graphics card in it. The other is a HP Pavillion a1240n I picked up from a kid that was leaving town on a train. Couldnt take it with him. its 3.0 1 GB of ram...Not sure about the video card...it integrated. It has a pci slot in it. The 3rd is a Dell. Demension 5100. 3.4 1 GB of ram. The video card is integrated and its 128. Its has a PCi slot also. I have 50.00 in the HP and just labor in the Dell.

I am going to use the stock keyboards. Optical mice. Game pads. And all the computers will have Dell 17" monitors. I have the monitor already. Keyboards and mice I have already. Since I work in a computer recycling center I have access to computers all the time. So i am grabbing the best I can find when they are being scrapped. I dont think I will be sending any more then a 1000.00 total on the computers. I have 200.00 in the monitors. They are blemished...so they are not going to be sold.

The video cards I may have to buy. I need to know what would be good for what i am trying to do. And what are the games that are the best. Any genre of games. I am looking at all options.

We can discuss more about the systems specs, when we find some games to play.

FPS games are always fun, and at my LANs we usually play Call of Duty 4, Counter Strike: Source, Team Fortress 2 as the main ones, but it's always fun to play some Quake III Arena, and the games that can pretty much run on anything.

Have you considered having some of the guests bring their systems and stuff?

Yeah i thought about having people bring their own rigs. But I guess I am thinking about what would be easier for everyone. I know I wouldnt want to drag my computer around.

The games you mentioned me and my nephew have discussed a few times. We do alot of FPS...but looking for a variety. Racing...baseball....you know...different.

I should have added to the systems...I wont used anything smaller then 80gb hard drives.

Alright, I'll do some research on other game genres that support LANs.

Can you handle the power, and will there be internet?
