Gaming PC lag issues

Hi guys. First off just joined (for obvious reasons.) Will definitely lurk and try to help.

Recently, I have been having problems with my desktop. For some reason, it's lagging like crazy. It feels like using a windows 95 computer.:(

I have run full system scans for viruses. Cleaned up files using CCleaner. Checked all wires, made sure nothing was unplugged and it was something simple. It's not overheating. I haven't downloaded anything recently. Checked all my cores, everything seems to be running fine. I'm running out of ideas and I really don't want to defrag..

My specs are:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

CPU: AMD FX-4300 13 °C
Vishera 32nm Technology

RAM:12.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz (oh dear the MHz  )

MB: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. GA-970A-UD3 (Socket M2) 30 °C

GPU: ASUS VS247 (1920x1080@60Hz)
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti (NVIDIA) 31 °C

I use it for gaming and streaming on Twitch. I run at 60 FPS with all high settings. (Mainly used for the game League of Legends.) Never have problems unless it is on their end of course.

Everything is up to date. I'm just stumped.

Thanks for any help given,

Dave

Disk Defragmenter.

Unless you're running an SSD there's nothing wrong with defragging. It takes a long time sure but it won't hurt your computer in anyway. Probably wouldn't even help though.

What lag are you getting? Bad framerate? Slow startup? Slow loading of things? "Lag" is not a specific term in the least.

Disk Defragmenter.

Correct. If you're explicitly avoiding defragging while using a mechanical drive then you are part of the problem.

Luckily modern versions of Windows does some defrag tasks in the background so it might not be god-awful horrendous but it'd be useful to at least run an analysis to see what you get back as a report.
