This is the comp I would like to build for Stalex 111.

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ Socket 939
RAM: OCZ Platinum Edition DDR PC-3200 EL 2 GB Dual Channel Kit
MoBo: DFI LanParty UT nF4 SLI-D
GFX CARD: Pine XFX Geforce 7800GTX - 256 MB - PCI-Express
PSU: Antec TrueControl 2.0 550W
CASE: Antec Performance One P180
HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 - 160 GB SATA
DVD: Samsung SH-W162C Black
CPU FAN: Arctic Cooling Freezer 64

I need to know; which processor should I get? The Athlon 4000+ and then overclock it to match FX-57 performances or the X2 4400+?

1. I would consider a different cooler, the CNPS9500 is a very pretty cooler, and was a very promising design but didnt fair all that well in reality

2. I would consider the X2-4200 or X2-4600 myself :)

1. Do you have another cooler to recommend?

2. The 4200 and 4600 only have 1 MB cache, the 4400 and 4800 have 2 MB. That's better, right?

Athlon arent that dependent on cache size. I would save the money and use it to buy some games to play on your new system.

Is it just me or are high performance computers getting cheaper...

OK, I'll go with the Freezer 64 then (not the one in Praetor's link, cause that's 754), in S939 version. It's weird, it says the Freezer 64 939 is compatible with X2s up to 5000+ and up to FX-59... These do not exist to my knowledge.

BUT WHO CARES, ARCTIC COOLING IS SWISS!!!!! YEAH!!!

I think I'll go with Praetors judgement and get the X2 4400+.

1. On dual core procs, can you overclock each core seperately or do they both have to be the same frequency?

2. How good an overclock can I expect from the 4400 with the Freezer 64?

3. How about the Freezer 64 PRO ??

when you OC a X2, both cores are OC'd.
i could push my 4400+ to a frequenty of 2,5GHz ( original 2GHz )
but i have it on stock again, because i didnt see much of a difference :)
