Ok, I know this has probably been axed a billion times before, please forgive me I'm new:o, but I need some help with a decision.

I am pretty handy with computers or so I think and I have recently been getting into flight simulator. I am currently running it on a laptop which is frightfully slow :mad:. I need a decent gaming pc to run it but cannot afford to buy one, and I dont want to build one from scratch as I don't want to pay a large lump sum and not be able to use it as I am building it. My Uncle owns a waste disposal yard and quite often has old computers come in for free. So I am planning to get one and gradually upgrade it. Would I be able to do it?

Really for a gaming spec machine you need a high end spec motherboard.

If you come across the right parts i don't see why not buddy.
what specs you aiming for mate ?

I don't really know tbh lol. Thats what I was thinking about replacing first, with a new graphics card, then see what I need, what board would you recomend, for value and performance? ;)
 
For this type of machine i couldn't suggest a Motherboard as i've never built such a machine but you got to be thinking

Decent Graphics card.
4gb of ram and upwards
Duo core or qaud core Processor.

Sound is a must too... got to enjoy the sound of games.

Massive hard drive as some are massive installation.

generally no, you may get lucky but usually people only throw away something that is A) too old to be of value (which means you wont see any benefit from having it) or B) broken.

you may get lucky but i doubt it. the best i think youll find is probably an old p4.

your really best off working out a budget and asking on here for suggestions
 
Usually what you find in the garbage is surprisingly "garbage"...

I like your idea but I really don't think you will succeed but I wish the best of luck to you.
 
Upgrading a old computer is useless because the CPU socket is gonna be old, so you'll need a new motherboard, probably doesn't have a graphics card, a good OS on it, and slow RAM/not a lot of RAM. Just save up.
