gap between heatsink and processor too big?!

Hi guys,
I'm having a bit of a confusing time with this!

I have a Dell XPS M1710 laptop, and due to me being a bit of rookie whilst taking it apart, now have no thermal pad on the CPU heatsink.
The gap between the heatsink and the processor is about 2mm's, so I cant use paste or tape. The pad that used to be there was around 2mm and fitted in nicely.

I've been looking online for about 3 hours to try and find a place that sells the appropriate pad for my laptop. It's driving me crazy. I can seem to find paste and tape everywhere, but no pads! I bought some thermal tape and it's still not tall enough to fill the gap.

Does anyone know where I can get these pads from?! (preferrably in the UK) or if it's even a thermal pad that I should be looking for? I can't find them anywhere.

Thanks so much for any help at all! :)

You may have to order one from Dell

I hate the way they design the cooling in their laptops...it's just dumb. When they revised the M1210, they made it so that the heatsink doesn't even tough the GPU!

Heya,

Cheers for getting back to me! Yeah that sounds the same as the m1710, the heatsink and cpu don't reach eachother, so compound cant be used.

I've looked on the Dell website and cant find thermal pads for laptops. Unless Im looking in the wrong place, which I doubt I was, I'll need to find them elsewhere.

Anyone know any places?
Thanks again for your help :)
