Hey all first post here just want to say hi before I start picking some of your brains...Can anyone tell me how to get into the Bios on a Gateway solo 9300. It's been passworded. So far I tried removing cmos Batt for two days no luck , I took the mobo out to look for jumpers there are none, I even tried killcmos,Ophcrack, Still no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

I can't believe no one knows how to kill this gateway Bios. I really don't want to send it back to gateway and have them charge me 200 + dollars for 5 minutes of work. I would rather smash it into a million pieces. Please help. Thanks

Are you sure that the power was unplugged when the battery was out as well?

Yes, I had it unplugged, (no ac power), I removed the cmos battery and also the onboard li-ion packs. And I drained the caps on the mobo with a 10k resistor. I just don't understand this freakin thing. I never had this much trouble with a laptop. All I want to do is change the HDD to a larger capacity, And Upgrade to XP and it won't let me.

Tried, No go. I keep getting a checksum error at the bios splash. I ordered a new cmos battery. Maybe it's resorting to a default bios setup due to the bad cmos battery. ???. The battery should be here in a couple of days. We'll see what happens when I try booting with a new battery. Any thoughts on the checksum error. Thanks

Try this may be work, the back up floppy.

I have a plan for you check out this link:http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/SHARED/BIOSPassword.shtml
If any one can make a back up floppy iso, that have same solo 9300,you may need the working laptop, than try to make the bios back up disk,or any one have same laptop he/she can up load the files for you and try.if get it working let me know?
ps you always remove the passwords when you done.just need to ask anyone willing to help.

aha! It's a laptop, and laptop motherbards (most of them) are engineered to have special circuitry and a chip to store a password for the BIOS and the startup even without the battery. It is an implementation to prevent unauthorized users/thieves from getting access to your BIOS to change settings, and if you have a Hard disk password or Boot password, it'll prevent access to the hard disk. Some laptops render useless even if you install a new hdd and take out the HDP-protected drive unless you have the password.

I'll have to try this when I get a chance. I will make the ISO with the new MoBo in, then swap it out for the old passworded one. If I can unlock it I'll sell it on ebay and get my money back for the one I had to buy.

try to upload the files here so any one need it
