Gateway configuration

Hi guys!
I need to make this setup:
Drawing1.jpg
  • Desktop: Windows XP
  • Laptop: Windows Vista (Home Premium)
The "Modem Pirelli" is the gateway given by the ISP, but on it there are just 1 ethernet port and 2 telephone (VoIP) ports...
Now I've bought this laptop recently, and i'd like to set up a small home network, so i take this my old gateway (the one with antennas in the picture) with WiFi and a 4 ethernet switch. His firmware is the USR 9801's... I linked it to the Pirelli but i don't know how to configurate it...!
Every time i try to access to the USR9801 (via browser: 192.168.1.1) he ask me to start the "first use configuration". The auto config doesn't start (because it isn't plugged to the phone, but to the Pirelli) and i don't know what to do when it ask me for VPI and VCI or which mode use between these:
  • PPPoA
  • PPPoE
  • Routing
  • Bridging

Oh, one more thing: I don't know how to configure the wLAN in order to secure it (with WEP or WPA)

I hope you could help this n00b out...! :P Thanks. :):):)

Edit: maybe it's not clear in the above text, though the Pirelli is a modem/router, and he mustn't be reconfigurated because it's needed by the ISP to operate (both aDSL and VoIP).
What have to be configurated is the "thing" between the Pirelli and the PCs... This "thing" cannot connect directly to the line (or i'll lose the services) but can work as:
  • Switch
  • Bridge
  • Router
What i'd like to know which one is the one i need and how to configurate it...

You will use the WAP (USR9801) as a switch. Plug every thing into the LAN side (since you are not using this as a router, you will not use the WAN port).

You might need to give it a static IP adress. and make sure that it is set to NOT assign IPs via DHCP (I assume that your other gateway will do handle the DHCP)

Does this help?

Here you are: these are the first 2 screens of the usr9801... i've tried some configuration, but every time after the router has rebooted it shows the same view...! What the hell...?! why?

I have to be honest, I am not fanilar with that brand of router. I do know that most home routers will do what you want. I have a Linksys and use it exactly the way that you want to set yours up.

Maybe someone else will chime in here with some advise.
