Im looking at upgrading my RAM and i knwo the computer is rated for PC2 6400 but i was wondering if i get faster RAM so my next computer which is going to be a custom build wont need different RAM. I want to get PC2 8500 right now but i need to know if my current computer will even boot with it. I realize it wont run rated speed. But will it run at all ?

You need to read your computer or Motherboard manual to confirm this (on your present and possibly new computer one day)
ie You will need to know specifications on your new motherboard before buying Ram for it ;)

Here's a good thread on manufacture drivers, which also includes computer/motherboard "Manuals" downloads: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic117607.html

I dont think you understood my question :( i know what the motherboard supports i just want to know if i put in higher speed RAM then it is rated for will it simply lower the clock speed to make it compatible or will it not start ? the Motherboard says max 800 but i want to buy 1066 ram for my next computer but only if i could use it for now as 800 RAM in my current computer.

Make sure it's the same kindof RAM. as in DDR , or DDR2 , or DDR3.

But my experience is that if you get faster RAM speed than your MOBO is capable of - that it will just run at the slower speed of the board.

I'll let others chime in to confirm it though.
