Gateway, just shut down - power prob???

I have a Gateway 6020GZ laptop.
I was using it last night when it just immediately shutdown loosing all signs power.
I was plugged in on the cord with a full battery also. Could have sworn I heard a 'pop' when it went blank.
The charging/ac light does not come on and it will not power up; battery seems fine as all charge indicator lamps still come on when you remove the battery to check charge level

I'm assuming its an internal power connection / part.
Best Guesses??
- Fairly simple fix and worth taking to a repair shop?
- Don't waste time / money?

My toshiba did this the other day, it had no sign of power at all, i think mine just got to hot, try it later lol, if it is a power connection inside issue or even your motherboard, i would just get another laptop due to repair shops charging outrageous prices...
