Gateway laptop feels hot

I have the Gateway NV 53, it seems to run hot and i dont think that should happen because the fan never seems to be working very hard. I've been looking online on how i can change the fan speed and many ppl say use speed fan. I downloaded it and it comes up with:

HD0: 44C
Temp1: 36c
Temp2: 32c
Core: 65c

What do these mean and what are they being used on?

To me it seems the Core is way to hot so i put the desired temp at 55c when i went to configure. But oddly enough it doesnt seem that my fans have fun any faster to try and combat the heat. I'm not sure if I'm doing it right but i figure thats how u would do it. Let me know if I'm doing anything wrong and if there is a better software out there that controls fan speed.

thanks,
Mike

There are 2 possible scenarios here:

1. The motherboard sensors are reporting temperatures way off from actual, which means you should not be concerned about it.

Best is to try to stress the system some more by playing a DVD movie, or subjecting your video system to 3DMark tests.

And if your laptop doesn't hang up, you don't have a reason to be worried about those temperature readings.

2. The motherboard fans are doing their job well, but it's your fan blades or fan assembly that's full of dust/debris. So, speeding up the fans wouldn't be of much help.

This can only be verified by disassembling your laptop to be able to inspect the fan assembly for dirt/debris which may have caused the poor cooling performance.
