error oxc00000e9. windows failed>hardware or software.
wont boot from of the restart options or any drive or command prompt. tried vista recovery disc, & boot order, no results.
then heats up around cpu fan area and shuts down. fan comes on and is clean.

paper wieght?

when you turn it on = error oxc00000e9. registry files missing or corrupt.

then when trying to start windows = windows failed>hardware or software incompatible,,,then...from the choices, which are 'safe mode' 'start windows normally' etc, it wont start. also, you also have the option of using the recovery disc to repair windows. wants the disc and a restart, but just goes back to the error screen.

also, after a while,,,say 5-8 mins, the cpu cooler area will heat up then the unit will turn itself off. (the cooler is clean and fan comes on)

You have hardware damage somewhere, start by testing the hard drive. You may also have other damage since its overheating. Was this laptop dropped by chance?

dont think so, my friend didnt say anything about dropping it. im presuming its possible altho i see no exterior damage. i dont know how to check the hhd nor have the tools that may be required. but i can remove it and have it checked. do you think that would stop it from booting from the disc?

problem solved. altho cd drive was 1st boot device, disabling the others allowed unit to boot from cd. did clean os install.
