How reliable is Gateway? I'm Looking to replace and aging acer aspire 4530,I'm looking for something in the 400 to 500 us dollar range,i found a Gateway NV55C44 with Intel i5 processor, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD with HDMI for 499 plus tax in a local brick and mortar store,For the specs this seems to be a good deal but i was looking online to get some reviews but i could not find any,do you guys think this is a good deal and should i get it, or could u guys suggest something else?

thanks in advance

If I remember right, Gateway is a sub-brand of Acer America, or he other way around. Acer is an ok brand, but the 55** and 77** series have an issue with the ribbon cables disconnecting from the LCD. Its an easy problem to fix, and is just caused by a lack of quality control. The Gateway should be just as good of a computer.

Gateways don't make the best laptops, especially their cheaper units. My friend had a cheap gateway and the keyboard was literally the worst I've ever used. Make sure you use the laptop hands on to see how you like it.

as far as I know acer now owns gateway,i was skeptical to get and acer but to tell u the truth i dont have any complaints so far as this is the best i have own compared to a compaq and a toshiba, however after doing some research i think im going to stay away from the gateway even though it has very good specs,if you guys have any suggestions in the 400 to 500 range please do share and thanks for the help.

At then end of the day all laptops are made in 2 warehouses in China! Not much difference between laptop brand but more the option and features...

I own a gateway and for 429$ duo core/4gb of Ram/500GB HDD/ATI 4250... it does the job just nicely with win 7 and ubuntu dual booth... plus virtual box with snow leopard and server 2003.

sorry, but I would not use HP for all teh money in the world. They have horrible build quality, and even worse warranty support. Seems everything is your fault with them, even factory defects (bad motherboards).

Thanks to all for your input at the end I went and got a

The price was 399 plus tax and there is a 50 $ mail in rebate, compared with my acer there are two main things that i dont like in the fujitsu, the speaker and sound quality seem to be far inferior to the acer and also the webcam seems to be better in the acer.

once again many thanks to all for the input.
