Hi! I have a 1999 Gateway Pentium 3, 600mhz computer with all the accessories and Windows 98 software along with a VX900 18" Viewable monitor -- NEVER been out of the boxes they came in (a friend purchased it and recently died, his wife was going to throw it out). Is it worth keeping, can it be upgraded, or is it just a dinosaur that I should just throw out? Thanks for any information!

Sorry, but everything there is grossly obsolete. Not worth using, and at most you might get $20 out of it if someone wants to have it to tinker with.

As far as security wise, its old and is no longer a supported Operating System. And there really is no reason to upgrade it as you won't be able to get enough ram in it to run windows efficiently. Throw it away unless you know of someone that doesn't get online, then it should be okay.

I would hook it up, and see what it can do.

It's from 1999. That makes it 12 years since it was out. 12 years is a vast amount of time in the technology world.

I wouldn't buy it today, but if you already own it or are getting it for nothing, it could be useful as a retro gaming machine, for when you nostalgic :)

It'd be fine for checking facebook and whatnot...no flash videos though.

You'd want to put some flavor of Linux on it, I'd think.

800mhz is not bad, if you have at least 500mb of memory in her.
Good for online, small regular games, even some videos or music.
It would be ok for simcity 3000, probally not for new shooting or driving games.
Crank her up and see what it can do. And even xp could be put on it.
