The model of the gatway computer is mx6447, the model of the optical drive is Phillips DVD+-RW SDVD8820. OS is XP pro SP2.

The drive will read the dvd and XP will ask to open a writable CD folder. When the folder is open it dosen't have the normal attributes of a writable CD folder, and it shows the disc has 0 bytes of free space and 0 used. When i try to drag and drop to the writable folder windows returns an error saying:

"Windows has encoutered a problem copying this file. What would you like windows to do?" you can choose between cancel and rety.

Anybody have any idea how to fix this?

Better yet, Deep Burner is free :P

I've actually never used Window's built in burning software. I've always just used Deep Burner or some such program.

If you're trying to burn a DVD with XP's built-in burning functions (which appears to be the case here), you're out of luck: XP will only burn CDs! To burn DVDs you'll need to follow brianmay's and The_Other_One's advice and get some burning software.
