Ge-Force Ddr2 Or 3?

Hey guys just a quick question, probably easy to answer but why is there a 30 dollar difference between the EVGA Ge-Force 8600GT 512mb DDr2 and the EVGA Ge-Force 8600GT 512mb DDR3. Is it just the compatability between motherboards? or is there a speed difference? The motherboard for the computer would be Asus M3A78-CM AMD 780V/SB700 AM2+mATX w/Video/Sound/G-Lan. well not looking to spend more then 150 bucks but i found the one i wanted i just wanted to know if and why they are different!
 
If the DDR3 one is perfectly affordable then i'd recommend getting it. However im not sure how noticable the performance difference actually would be.
If at all.

It has nothing to do with motherboard compatibility and doesnt relate to your normal ram either.
 
As the other posters have said GDDR3 is faster, however I would only get it if the difference isn't too great.
 
Wait are you seriously looking at an 8600GT for $150? That's how much I payed for my superclocked 8800GT, which probably gives me triple the frame rates as my old overclocked 8600GT. And that's including tax and S&H. Have you looked on NewEgg.com? I think they have 8600GT's for like $60 now. Anyway GDDR3 is faster than GDDR2 and also uses less power than GDDR2. It's basically like the diff between system memory, DDR2 is obviously faster than DDR. DDR3 is much better, although I don't think the price makes it worth it. In terms of graphics memory on an 8600GT, look for one that has GDDR3 and either 256MB or 512MB of RAM. 1GB of memory is pointless on a 128-bit memory interface.
 
Oh okay I didn't catch that. Well I would go with the 8800GT. I personally know haha, I bought the 8600GT because I was on a budget. I ended up selling it for half the price 2 months later and got an 8800GT. Twice the money, but like 4 times the performance, why not?
 
naw the card is 98 and 125. 98$ being the 8600 ddr2 and the 125 being the ddr3. Still over priced? its a local store we have here that i drive by all the time so i dont have to wait for shipping. They always have everything in stock. so there pretty good! but yea that makes sense but if the difference isnt worth the price ill go for the ddr2. Its my parents enlaws computer anyways.
 
Well if they're not going to be doing gaming, then you don't really need the GDDR3. Then again you probably don't need a video card if they're not doing gaming. I would say if you're going to invest ~$100 on a video card, buy a good one. If you're not going to use it don't buy one. Lol, and if they are going to use it I would say get something better. I would look online. Also check what Intel Man said. Look at NCIX. You could get an 8600GT for $125 or an 8800GT for $140. And you can't imagine how much better the 8800GT is haha.
