The 6600 is the better card, as one would expect given the price difference.

There are far better better cards for the money, however, you can get a 6600GT for this price, for example.
 
if u gonna get 6600... y not get x1650 instead?

6600 got 8 pipe.... 9600pro got 4 but 9600pro got faster core clock mem clock so its a tie but i would lean toward 6600

also...although you said to ignore the no. of pipelines but thats the key to make these two cards different i guess

6600 has 8 pipelines and 9600pro has 4...and both use ddr 128-bit memory....so i dont think that 9600pro will beat the 6600 in your case

You don't know any thing about video cards

the 9600 pro needs to have a clock speed of 600MHz to have the same fillrate as 6600, but it has only clock speed of 400MHz at stock, so the 6600 is far better.

Also, the 6600 is good overclocker. My 6600 is overclocked from 300/500 to 345/575 and I don't have any problems. Also, I can overclock the clock speed to 400Mhz or more without having any problem
 
The LE version of 6600 has only 4 pixel pipelines, but I think it can be unlocked to 8
Not anymore (only NV43 A2 or earlier could be unlocked)

There will be a significant difference. As I said earlier, you can get a 6600GT at this price (and probably better still, if you look thoroughly). Even without looking at the specs, the model number alone should tell you that this is clearly a superior card.

Also, why neglect the extra pipes? They're not for compatibility or eye candy, but simply provide better performance.

You also seem to be restricting yourself to 256MB cards. At this level, there's really no point in doing so, as the extra video memory cannot be effectively used by such cards.

So, if I want to play play Quake 4 in High Quality, I still can use 128MB cards and just only put more system RAM?
