there are 3 different types of video adapters, one is PCI, one is AGP, and one is PCI-Express. The 7800 is PCI-Express, you cant put it in a regular PCI Slot.

are you telling me you haven't even checked to see you have agp or pci-e
download and run cpu-z
http://www.cpuid.org/cpuz.php
look at page mainboard, look under graphics version and see what it says!

they dont make agp version of the 7800gtx. So you cant use that. The best the make is a 6800ultra on agp.

Could i also ask your other system specs because it seems as though your getting a gpu thats too far beyond the rest of you system

Dimension 4600
------------------
OS: XP Home Edition
P4 2.6 Northwood
512mb Ram ( off topic for one second would it be worth putting 4G of ram in when cost isnt an issue)
120G Harddrive

Graphics Interface
-------------------------
Version APG V3.0
Max supported x8

what else is ther?

no, it unnessessary amount 1gb will be enough

I judge your cpu to be a bottleneck here. If you have an unlimited budget why not just build a new system?
The fact of the matter is that if you stick a 6800ultra in there you not going to be able to use it to its maximum as the cpu is going to be a limiting factor. Your currently on a socket 478 cpu so that mean the max you can goto on an upgrade is 3.4 (but this dependson your chipset)
What is your budget get build this gaming systems your after

maybe all this computer needs is a bit of ram!
It does need osme ram, but the cpu is still going to be limiting

suppose i could spend up to 2500!
pounds or dollars
With that much money you should build a new gaming rig. You will be able to build something much much better.

i know intel are multi tasking and AMD are more gaming im so sick off hearing that but what king of power do AMD have compared to Intel Processor wise!
