General Case Question

Ok so I think I've decided to try and build my own PC. The biggest question I have, if I buy Case A, will it allow the motherboard to be secured properly?

Or do I need to do some research to make sure the motherboard will fit into Case A or Case B.

Can you be more explicit?

Motherboards come in three main sizes (from largest to smallest): ATX, Micro ATX, and Mini ITX. Any case you decide to purchase will list the largest motherboard form factor that will fit in it. For instance, an ATX case can fit all three, but a Mini ITX case will not fit anything larger than a Mini ITX board.

You mean like it'll have holes in the exact places for the stand-off holes on the case? It's definitely not guaranteed, but if they're not there, you can always drill some ;)

Exactly. So I guess there is no way of knowing it will fit until you buy the case and motherboard.
 
The case reseller should say something like ATX, m-ATX, e-ATX, etc... That means there are predrilled holes for that motherboard and the motherboard size fits inside the case. The motherboard should have the same specs. If you want to be completely safe, get a mid-tower with an ATX motherboard.
 
when you buy a case it will show its "form factor" in the specifications, NEWEGG is very good with this. You can go wrong there, it will tell you which MOBOs it will fit.
