General IP Question

I have a few IP questions..
Particularly ones that identify an user.

1. When registering for a forum, an admin can see the user's ip correct?
2. But doesn't the ip change whenever the user uses a different computer?
3. How do you check your ip address?

If your behind a router then you will have to external ip address, and an internal ip address
If your not behind a router then you will just have an external IP address
so to answer your question
1. Extenal = yes, Internal = no
2. If your second computer in on the same router network then:
External = no, Internal = yes
If your second computer is not on the same router network (eg at your mates house):
External = yes, Internal = N/A (since you not on the same router any more)
3.
External: Goto http://www.whatismyip.com/
Internal: Type ipconfig in a command prompt window (assuming your using windows 95/98/Me/2k/XP)

External..? Internal..?
Then which does the admin see? Both?
How do you reset the ip?
And when an admin bans a user (by his ip right?) the user can still reregister..can't he?

You can change your internal IP all you want. Its the external IP that the world sees and you cannot change; your ISP gives you that IP address. If you have a dynamic IP then your ISP will be giving you a different IP address every so often... If you wanted to have a server you would need to pay a few more $$$ a month and get a static IP.

Your ISP has a range of Dynamic IP addresses it will give out to its customers. That range is what will be banned if you continue to re-register on this forum after being banned.

So play nice.. and you wont get banned.

What if someone was to use a proxy server or a program such as ghost surf?

Good for them... If you have nothing better to do with a proxy server... well, GET A LIFE!

This thread is going to come to an end. The reasons why someone gets banned from a forum are obvious. People do not change... if you find away back onto a forum, you are bound to do the same things that got you banned in the first place....

Acting responsibly and respecting a forum, its staff and its members is more impressive and worth praising than finding a way back onto a forum that does not want you around.

Hey dont get your panties in a bind! I was just wondering if there was a way to prevent people who do this to get back on the forum? The reason being is because I am a mod on another forum!

I'm not worried about being banned..
But I do want to know more about the external ip..
Say I log onto this forum from home or from work.. can you still track me?
I'm not sure if I'm asking the question right.. it's just something I've been wondering about.

I would like to know some more info about this also, and how this forum is set up, I just became a moderator on another forum and say we ban someone and they sighn up useing another computer and then go home and log on will we be able to see this as the person that has been banned? excuse me for asking such a question but we just set up this forum and we are already having problems with some members!

I know what the mods are thinking guys...
This thread is not healthy for this forum or others. if you want to know about external IP'S and information about the such go learn.... WWW.GOOGLE.COM

RaspberiHevn if you are a recent blocked member.. I would suggest you find another forum, and stop bothering people. We like to have a restectable board here..

Have a nice day..

You probably don't have a static IP which means every time you connect to the internet you IP will change.
