I was curious who may know the answers to these questions that have pondered me for a while. I put them in this forum, because there are too many different categories.
Question #1
~I was told that when you have a cable modem, you actually recieve the internet signal as a JPG file, and the modem interprets it. Is this true and how is it possible for it to work?
Question #2
~The new technology with the LightScribe DVDs burners-the laser etches the "label" side of the media, as opposed to, printing the label. If the laser etches it, then wouldn't the "etchings" go somewhere inside the drive? Or does it burn the label side similar to the data side? (OK, this one hasnt pondered me too long lol)
Question #3
~Is it possible to have 2 burning heads in a CD/DVD drive to enable simultaneous burning (thereby faster burning times)?
Question #4
~Even when downloading large files, I still do not reach the maximum d/l rate of 100Mbps, even though I use Firefox (I think the highest I have reached was 600kbps). Is this my ISP's doing (max cap according to my broadband package) or is there something I can do about it on my end?
Question #5
~When investigating the above question, I had unplugged my internet connection. When I looked at the graph from the Task Manager, it still showed (about) 3000 bytes every 10 seconds recieved. I know it is not possible. Could someone explain it to me?

Thank you all for taking this time in reading and responding

false... i think someone was pulling your leg :)

thats an interesting one, my guess would be that the film that covers the disk vapourises.

i dont think it would be possible cos it would be near on impossible to make sure that the different data "tracks" align correctly; i've read about cd-roms with more than one lens to achieve a higher transfer rate however.

i think you'll find that 100Mbps is the speed at which your pc is connected to your cable modem. Your actual connection is probably nearer 700 kbps

did you unplug the modem from your pc or the incoming cable from the modem, there would still be data going to and from the modem and pc even there is no net connection.

hope this is helpful.... if anyone finds anything wrong with what ive said feel free to correct me :)

100Mbps is prabally just your router speed, but not your cable speed, you will need to what it it is from your ISP, it'll prabally range from 500Kbps-6Mbps(yours prabally more around 1Mbps)

if you mean 600KB/s then you have a 5Mb broadband connection. do you have the modem connected via ethernet, if so, this may be why you thought of 100mbps, as this is what it states in windows.

ps. im loving the way you put the question headers in white, when the background is white too, thus making the writing invisible :P

Yes, perhaps that it why I was mistaken. The hardware allows a maximum of 100 Mbps, and my service does not reach that. It does make me wonder is other OSs (Im looking at you Linux) that may allow for better pipelining. If I do have a 5MBps speed, maybe I can get a 600Kbps per pipeline speed. It would stand to reason that a single pipeline while appear to (my ISP) server that it is a seperate socket.
Maybe I am getting a little ahead of what I want to do.
The white text? Oh yeah, you got me. I like to do things like that. Can you imagine if you did white text and combined it with a hyperlink....

SirJay,
A fellow Texan, cool! I'm further north but I might be relocating in the near future.
I have always wondered about that maximum speed stuff you mentioned.
Nice trick in that link. I wonder if others will notice. :)

You never know. It is possible that it could go hidden for a while. I have been in some forums that hidden messages go for a long time before they are discovered.
