General Rantings and Ravings!

Maybe it's cuz I'm in a bad mood, but I feel like doing some ranting, feel more than welcome to join in..the more the merrier.

I'm getting bothered by making detailed posts, putting effort in to helping people, and getting no reply at all. I'm not even asking for a thank-you, just a yeah that worked or no that didn't work. I find myself writing paragraph long posts and having them not even reply. Did they even read it? Did they solve it by themselves and not even read what I said? Did they read what I said, do it, fix the problem and leave me hanging? WHAT!?! This has been a growing annoyance so here I am, ranting and raving. I'm feeling a little bit better now...this helped haha :P...

Anyone else care to make a general complaint?

It can be annoying, when the person with the problem never replies to your post...but you just have to assume they fixed it and are eternally grateful for your advice :P

very nice of you. try to segment the paragraphs though. dont write tons and tons of wall of text. most people look for an alternative to that and might look at other posts since they might not feel like reading everything.

if you do, divide it into little paragrahs. use some bold italicize underlines and use numbers and * to represent the steps.

now, all this is assuming that you write walls of text only. im not saying you do. but, to answer that..
* most people are just too happy and grateful to reply.
* if they need to restart their computer, they may of not feel like it or forgotten to thank you.
* or some of them just dont have the ability to be online everyday to see your answer. their internet usage may be limited.

however, some people gets it solved, then never to return again. until another problem exists.

I know what you mean about people not replying.

One time someone saw smoke coming from the motherboard and I asked if they put standoffs... 3 days later they post hapily that it was overheating because they forgot to place standoffs. I was really pissed off at the time :o

By the way I'm sorry for acting imature in those situations guys.

no, thats thw whole point of the site, it will give you your external IP, works for me and im behind a router......

That is just pure ignorace.... that guy is either blind or never learned to read.

actualy, the guy in the post is right. that site shows the routers ip, not the computers. i realize that noone knows everything, but getting mad at people just cause your sure your right is wrong. and im not talking in particular to you skidude, just in general.

Well what about the other thing he said, the router settings page? He could also have stated that none of those worked, but its okay, you gave him a correct answer.

Well as far as dragon and I are concerned, it gives our IP as if we did not use a router, even though we do. Apparently though, assuming all who disagreed actually visted the link, it doesn't work for everyone... which confuses me but oh well...

I guess you can't always be right, even when that "right" thing has worked so many times.

Personally, I think this is a great topic and it's something that's always bothered me. This forum carries two primary functions and those being 1)help other people with, but not limited to, computer related issues because we have the knowledge to do so. 2)Act as a point of reference, if you will. What I mean is that, for example, lets say someones computer is shutting down randomly, they post the problem, the thread eventually gets to 3 or so pages long full of suggestions/tips to diagnose and solve the problem. Well, if the person experiencing the problem posts a closing reply stating that it was his faulty power supply, now anyone who comes across that thread, and is having similiar symptoms, has a rough template how to diagnose and solve his problem. Not to mention, a simple thank you goes a long way. It's important we all help eachother out (those of us who know eachother and have been posting for awhile as well as those who are completely new). I would even say that a latent function of this forum is definately, over the course of time, making new friends from all over the world.

When I first came to this site, I was having an artifact issue with my videocard. My intentions were to get my problem solved and leave. Well, i'm still here because of the people, knowledge, and simply the need to return the favor and help people out who are having a problem like i was. Hopefully, this site continues to grow and remain a respectable and knowledgeable forum because whether we all realize it or not, we are all teaching eachother new things with every thread we post. Even the "new guys" who come in here, not knowing a damn thing, posting about a problem that we are all sure of the solution, but, it turns out to be something else. With that said, this has been long enough, i've spoken my peace, keep up the good work everyone!

it is a thankless job we do for people. this is something you young pups will have to learn. there is alot of of things i do and don't get thanked for but i don't complain about it. lot of people come to stores and web sites with problems and have them fix. they are glad to get the problem fixed but they forget to say thank you in return. it is something we will have to learn to live with.

maybe they died.....?

but seriously, i think sometimes people take the internet, especially with people they dont know, so impersonable that they forget they are actually communicating with other people. so sometimes, they might think theyre problems are getting solved by some mindless machine thats duty is to fix things. ...oh well.

or maybe people are just plan out rude. Im usually the last to post a reply on any thread I start and thats normally to say thank you for the advice I wouldn't take peoples ignorance personally maybe im being to harsh!

Same here! (But I'm a lotttt newer than you...but still...)

But anyways, to the point of this message...

I guess I don't NEED a thank you, but I think what I DO need is closure. Now, if someone were to say "Yeah, that worked." and not say thank-you then well...I'd probably be quite astonished. But...like I said I need closure.

I have every post that I am active in listed in my Favorites. I post on 4 different sites (Bot of course, this is my favorite!!) and it gets quite clogged!! So, having to keep peoples week old posts because they havn't replied reallyyyy fills up that list. Im already extremely unorganized, this makes it worse!!! :P After I delete posts out of my favorities my paranoia kicks in! lol...right after deleting it all i can think is..."What if they reply now, and I won't see it!!!" :P

...I guess everyone doesn't say thanks for different reasons. Doesn't think we're real people, doesn'r CARE, forgot..guess ill have to live with it.
