Get this thing running

Is the caps lock flashing? Did you try reseating the memory? Those models were notorious for having bad motherboards.

Yeah, the caps lock and the arrow above the num pad on the right is flashing. I have not tried to reset the memory, but if there is a way to do it without looking at the screen I am all ears! The scary thing is that when I hooked it to a plugnplay monitor it was black too. I don't care if the hdd is wiped, nothing important on it.

I said "reseat", which means turn it off, flip it over, take out the battery, unscrew the memory door, and remove the memory

Lol so much for details.. ah hum, well I bought a new CPU the exact one that came factory but it was a pain to take the keyboard off and make the connections that only miniature hands are capable of. I just put the CPU in today, so should I reseat it?

I have a feeling that the CPU replacement was a waste.

Its going to be very hard to find a keyboard clip replacement. Your best bet is to buy a new keyboard for your computer. That way, it comes with a new ribbon cable and everything

He broke the part that keeps it in place on the motherboard, not the ribbon cable.

Thanks for the replies, you and @ninjabubbles3. @voyagerfan99 you correct about what I broke. I attempted a replacement of the clip with a small rectangular piece of plastic from a store package (saw it on another thread). I thought about buying a new keyboard with a replacement as well. Before I buy one and waste money if this one is repairable, I will tell you the problem I'm having with the ribbon cable without the clip. Before the retainer clip broke, the keyboard worked fine. Now that I have jimmied it in successfully, after pressing 'g' and 'o' the keyboard will automatically hit 'spacebar' and 'enter' without me touching them.

I know that the last part of that Para could have been easily said 'the keyboard is broke', but if it makes sense to you, how do I fix this problem? (is it fixable)

How exactly did you break the plastic clip? If the tabs broke, you can just shove it back in there and tape it. The reason the keys are acting weird is because the cable isn't firmly on its correct contact points, so it's causing the signals to be misinterpreted.

I have that plastic wedge that I cut to size just for the ribbon cable. If there it's done right, the keys should work as should?

For now what I am doing is holding off until it's a solid confirm, otherwise it might be wise to get the $10 replacement keyboard and have it put in right with the correct retaining clips.

@ninja bubbles does the new keyboard ribbon cable slots have to be soldered to the board ?? Laptop keyboards are hard to put back together once they've been broken or mishandled. BELIEVE ME, the space to get a hand in to the under part of the keyboard for the 'keys' and not the 'power' ribbon are next to paper thin. It's like fitting a rock between two pieces of paper.
