Getting a new Mobo.

First of I'd like to say hello as this is my first post in these forums.

I recently purchased an MSI K8NGM2-L from Newegg. Theres two things wrong with it. 1: Its sucks ass. No features or anything, and 2: It's RAM slots are defective (No, its not the RAM).

Anywho, Im going to return it, and pay the $10 restocking fee in order to get a better one. My current contenders are:

Which do you guys think is the best.

your best bet is the MSI board. Foxconn is a motherboard company that's popularly used by some computer companies, they're cheap and blow. ECS boards are unreliable and if you're lucky they don't stop working within 2 years. I dont know much about jetway, so id suggest really reasearching its reviews and test before buying one. MSI is reliable and makes really nice boards, so thats your best bet

I'm also in agreement on MSI while taking a serious look at their line instead of Asus for the next build here. I keep one MSI video card onhand at all times due to the reliability seen in their video cards as well. Abit lacks a lot of high end but seems a reliable mid range brand. Jetway seems to be in the generic class with Foxconn since the reviews point to it as a budget brand.

MSI is very strong with their GFX cards, but their mainboards can be a bit iffy
i was very pleased with the two tx7600 GFX cards, pulled over 10,000 on
3dmark 03

The MSI specs on boards outweigh DFI and Gigabyte as well as ChainTech for the most part. They certainly go right past Abit and others. Gigabyte did recently have a micro board reviewed that kicked tail with the full sized atx models. The next board will handle 4gb of ram minimum and maybe even Crossfire to SLI depending which AMD board is selected at the time.

Well, my previous MSI board blew. I prefer to have a board under $80 becasue Im a poor kid. I would like to have an SLI capable board so that I can have the option of upgrading later on. Firewire is a must. I made that mistake with my last board. I looked at the reviews for all of these boards, and they all received pretty good ones.

Thanks

Most of the boards under $80- have only one PCI-E 16x slot from what I have been seeing lately unless you go with a refurbished model.

As of yet I can't state whether or not those two brands are quality or simply low end with a gimic of adding a 3rd slot inbetween the usual pair of PCI-E 16x slots seen on many boards. An added slot for using a single graphics may see a convenience but not any real performance at the same time.

For now im just going to keep this one, but later on, when Vista comes out, im planning on getting an X2 CPU and another card.

The Asus model at the link there will do both for you. I definitely favor Asus over MSI by the long shot. But MSI did stand higher then what I've seen on other brands as far as features and online support. The Asus model does fit into your budget though. You would have the X2 capability along with the SLI for later expansion when you add the second card.

Hm... Kinda pricy at almost $200

I Finally got my refund for the old board, and I think, unless one of you has a good reaseon not to, Im going to buy the jetway as it has everything I want, and got good reviews

I hope it works for you. I haven't much on that brand either way to offer any approval or opposition. Hopefully you won't be starting another thread due to bad board there. Good Luck with it.
