Im kinda new to this and im planning to upgrade from 939 to AM2, what would be a decent- pci-e, 4 memory slots, mobo for around $75????

Also, i've never replaced a mobo, so what do i do?? is there anything else i have to change besides memroy (from 184-pin to 240-pin) and cpu??? do i have to format my HD??

I'm in the same boat as you, I'm about to get a new Mobo, Yeah, It would help to formtat the HDD since there's a lot of change, It'll help the mobo accept the hardware... Plus, It may be good to have a fresh start?

To replace your motherboard, you most likely need to reinstall windows, and you will lose all of the data that you have on your hard drive if you reinstall windows, so that means you should back up all your important files.

I'm in the same boat also, I want to upgrade an intel mobo though. So is there anyway around installing a new mobo and not having to format your hdd? I only have the restore cd's that come with the retail computers so how could I reformat the hdd without completley erasing the OS so I could use the restore cd's? or is there no way out of it?
