getting a new monitor

Hi! I was planning on getting a new monitor to replace my dell S2209W, and I don't know what to get, I would like better image quality, and maybe a higher contrast? (not really sure if that's needed or not), something that is great for gaming, and I would like it to be at least 23 inches, my budget is 500$. Any recommendations?
 
Specs of desktop? Games you play? No sense in going overboard on a monitor if you can't push it playing demanding games.

Any 1080p monitor by Acer or Asus will do. For $500, you could get a 1440p monitor but the 7770 wont be able to handle that with games like Far Cry 3, hell, at 1080p the 7770 wont handle far cry 3 very well.
