Getting around the 4 partition limit

Hello,

I have a Windows 7 PC to which I have now added Ubuntu so I can dual boot.

However.

Before installing Ubuntu I had 3 partitions: one preinstalled by Dell (apparently), one 'RECOVERY' partition and then the main C: drive with Windows and all my data.

After installing Ubuntu and making some tweaks, I now have the original 3 partitions PLUS an extended partition (which contains 3 further partitions: linux, swap and something else I can't remember) AND a load of unallocated space - and this is when I'm having trouble. I have used up my 4 partition limit but I want to turn this unallocated space into my data partition which can be freely accessed by both OS's.

Soooo is there any way I can consolidate the original 3 partitions into one extended partition? This seems to be the logical answer but I don't know a) how to do this or b) how it will affect the data contained within those partitions.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

im not sure on windows 7, but I know under 10.04.2 in the system tab (i think) i could see and access media from my XP and 2000 drives. This would aide you i think.

Otherwise, under windows, use the partition manager and make it an extended NTFS partition and you should be able to see it.
