Getting audio files from games

Hi, does anyone know if/ how you can get seperate audio files from games e.g the sound of a certain gun from COD. I'm sure i found folder somewhere where it had loads of samples from the game, but can't remember what game it was, or where the files where

Usually in the game folder, most every game has a sound folder in there somewhere.

I can't find one in COD2, a lot of the files have an unknown application, so maybe they can only be used in the game ?? i think i've found a solution though, someone pointed out a program called focus mp3 recoreder, which can record whatever goes through your soundcard. So i can record a bunch of sounds then just split it up in cubase. Thanks for your reply anyway.

If it's an ogg format then you can download programs that can convert them back to wav or mp3 format.
