getting HTML emails when "plain text" will do

Microsoft been a few cans short of a six pack, set up by default email programs as HTML and not plain text, I for one think this is a total waste on Internet bandwidth. HTML email take up about 2.5 the size of plain text ones, next time you are trying to log on to a web site and it is going so sssssllllllooooooooowwwwwww just give it a thought, all these unless HTML email going around the net.

At first I used to reply with same color font as the background, that used to get many people, when they could not read any reply.

Now I am trial-ling by including some obnoxious sound like "Fart.wav" or "ultbelch.wav" back into the reply of a HTML Email. you can even select how many times you wish to play it, no doubt a surprise to anyone that has their computer wired for sound.

Emails slowing the internet? Sounds like something stupid that happened recently...

I am from California, and that heat wave was here for 4-5 days. On the hottest day it was 107F. My good friends wife was teaching summer school around noon, when they received a phone call. Apparently a woman said "turn off your air conditioning, mine is not cooling the house fast enough. You are pulling to much power from the grid..."

So when I heard this, i was stupified that someone would actually think that way, AND she would rather give 200 kids heatstroke to cool her damn house...

Whats my point Eric? My point is I pay for my cable connection and if I wanna send HTML emails... I will. There is no way you could see an increase in your connection because you are sending text emails...

But good joke on the fart.wav...

ummmm lets think what is my point, oh yes GETTING BLOODY USELESS HTML EMAIL WHEN PLAIN TEXT EMAILS WILL DO JUST AS GOOD

IF HTML EMAILS WERE THE SAME SIZE AS PLAIN TEXT EMAILS, I WOULD NOT MIND.

as for the hottest day WELL THAT IS HOW WE HAVE ABUSED THE PLANET WE LIVE IN.

You are right it is a joke if only one person changes from HTML to plain text, think of the difference if millions of people make the logical change.

There is a big reason to use html e-mails....You can do more stuff with them.

IT SHOULD NOW SLOW ANYTHING DOWN UNLESS YOUR ON 28,8k internet, if yoiur on anything betetr then dialup you will nto notice any difference.

He isnt talking about slowing down your connection, he is talking about slowing the internet, as a whole.... "whacko"

I see, I thought you misreead it, but not i just read it again, and it was me who misread it :P

Yeah, basicly you need to learn how the internet works before complaing :P

[yawn] [yawn]........ but the point I make is MOST html emails I get look just like plain text emails (using just black font on while background), that is why I think Microsoft should set email programs to plain text by default, if anybody wants HTML features than they switch over.

What don't you understand? It would take more time to change it then it would make any diference, it would proabaly take 10 seocnds to change, when it would only add about .02 seconds to the sending time, and .01 seconds to reiveving and it will not slow the internet down in anyway.

The size of an email is stupid to think about when you consider the MOVIES and games which are being downloaded and uploaded across the internet... Single files ~5GB... That is a lot of emails.

Exactly. You might get 1000 people to switch over. I person start downloading a 1GB file...oh look...there goes all that bandwidth you "saved".

And as previously noted, that isn't how the internet "works". One website being slow, does not mean the entire internet is now slow. When you send an e-mail, you are dealing with that e-mail provider. If you're having problems send/receiving...it is either your ISP, or your e-mail service! It's not the entire internet.

It sounds like maybe you think "the internet" is one massive pipeline, that branches off to every individual computer. It doesn't work that way...

The bulk of email on the Net is spam so what you and I do is really quite irrelevant. Every video download on the Net is a few zillion emails.
