so rite now im using my onboard video card, 128mbs shared, so should i be able to run openGL and 3d accelerated programs such as half life and the like?

I think it will run. but, what motherboard are you talking about?
i mean, some mobo's have a onboard x300(SE), while others have intel extreme grafics. and this makes quite a big difference :)

that is a very good question, lol ive been trying to figure out what mobo i have for a lil bit now. the company (northgate) that made my comp went out of buissness. I didnt have eneugh to make my own comp so i just bout a clearence one that was half decent (amd64 @ 2ghz, 512mb ram, samsung 17" mon inc...) anyways northgate is outta buissness so i cant see what mobo the a3000 has, and i havent seen eneugh mobos to identify by sight.. any ideas to figure out what one ive got?

why would you say that?

Your CPU might possible be able to handle it, more RAM would help, but the onboard video really makes it suck. It's OK, but hl2 is a very graphics-intensive game that requires at least a Radeon 9500 or better. :D

oh those kinda games dont work on my comp,
when you say dont work, what do you mean. Have you tried running them and you found them unplayable, or did the not even load.

but im wondering if they should
No, your onboard graphics card is not good enough to run them at any speed which is playable.

I mont talking about it being too slow Im talking about my card wont even run openGL and Direct3D and such.

when i try to open a game of the like it wont even boot into it. it tells me it starts loading then it closes before i even get to see a menu at all.

although war3 works perfectly so thats confusing along with star trek elite force I. :S so i dont know whats going on.

No it doesn't. I have played the Half Life 2 demo just fine on the lowest settings with my card that was originally made for DirectX 7 but uses 9.0c.

Dan, see if you can download newer chipset drivers for your motherboard. Download and run CPUid to find out everything you need to know about your motherboard:

http://www.cpuid.org/cpuz.php#download

You can then put it in google and (hopefully) get what you need.
