Getting ready for my first build

Im wanting to build a computer sometime this year, more then likely before summer.

This will be my first build so im going to need all the help i can get.


I wont be using this computer for any hardcore gaming, i dont game at all.
Im wanting to build something solid for pretty much nothing but internet browsing.
I play a few games but nothing serious.
I'll be running dual monitors also.


Here is a motherboard that im quite interested in.
Maybe its over kill, maybe its not.
Give me some input on it if you could.

Im not sure the socket type, im wanting to run a processor between 3.0 and 3.5ghz


In would like to run 8 or 16gb of ram and either the antec 900 or the antec 300 case. Might look at a few others i am not sure.

That's not a bad mb choice actually.
What games do you play? Just the basic internet type games? Not wow or anything like that?
For your stated use it sounds like an onboard video chipset would work well tho, and the 870i doesn't have one, which would mean buying a GPU. Check out the HD 4250 or 4290 IGP.

I play a trucker game and a couple roller coaster tycoon games.

I'll be able to run dual monitors smoothly off the MB?
Ive got no problems with buying a GPU, i already have one on my current
set up that will work.
 
Yes, a mb can run 2 monitors just fine. Higher than 1080p actually. blue ray and game a little depending on the game. No DX11 tho. I don't know your games but it at least sounds like the mb would do well. It would have to be investigated unless someone that knows them comes along.,,,But,,Since you have a card or are willing to buy one... What card do you have? If it's worthy of crossfire you could get the ASRock Extreme3 that has x8/x8 for $10 more. Just a thought. Is it AMD/ATI? Model #?
 
The card i have right now is a GeForce GT 240

Im not too sure on what all the numbers mean when you were talking about MB's in post # 3. I copied and pasted what i read into Newegg and didnt get too many results.


About the best thing you can do for me is tell me what i can run for what i want to do that isnt going to empty my wallet.

Pretty much, build a computer for me with links. lol




Ive never built a computer so im still learning as to what will work with what or what will work better then something else.
Im wanting a 6 core processor though i do know that, with atleast 3.2 ghz.
