Getting Used to PC Gaming?

I'm going to be making the transition from console gaming to PC gaming in the next year or so, and I was wondering what the transition would be like. I have been an Xbox 360 user since the year they were released, and I am so incredibly used to using a standard console controller.

Does using a mouse and keyboard take a while to get used to?

Does it strain your fingers after hours of playing?

Are players better than console players on PC?

Also, how do you communicate with friends online via PC, do you have to use skype or something?

Thanks,
Toby

Not really. Takes a few mistakes to get used to the interface, then it is second nature. Maybe a week of use or less and you will have the hang of it.

That is completely dependent on the keyboard. If you have one that is comfortable to you, and setup at the right level so that your wrist are not bent to use it, then you can go for hours on end in comfort.

Depends on whom you are playing with. The people that do play PC will be more accurate, and used to what they do, so it can seem like they are better. Really it is more talent than what you use to play.

Teamspeak and the like. Depends on what game you are playing, and what it supports.

It depends on the game. First Person Shooters are much easier to me on a pc.

With 3rd person games I like a controller better if it's more action then shooting. I find the mouse a very precise input. Controllers just don't have the same level of input as you have to use your thumb vs your whole hand. Sure you can be just as accurate, but subtle movements are easier for me with a mouse.

You should be able to find yourself a controller for your pc that you like. Then you have the best of both worlds.

Well PC gaming can be tricky if you are using it for first time, as above you will take time to get used to the keyboard, you will have to look at the keyboard to see the keys while gaming, that happened with me while I was new.
In PC the coordination between your eyes, keyboard and mouse is important. But if you are good at typing then you mostly have to concentrate on your left hand i.e keyboard.

For me I was right at home transferring from a console to PC, with a keyboard and mouse over controller, after a few weeks I came to love the KB and mouse over the controller.
I have never strained my fingers very much with a contrroller or keyboard, but the conrtoller might have made me a little more actually.
They are about the same.
Like wolfe said, depends on what game you are playing. Most games that have good MP have the headset and communication support built in. You could use skype.
